Those starting a business are younger and in our experience automatically look for online solutions, some demand it. IT departments are disappearing in smaller businesses – the whole thing is going online.

I attended a London Business Angels Company Presentation Event yesterday - 5 businesses, from early stage pre-revenue through to post-revenue ventures seeking further investment to fund expansion. Pitches are necessarily brief, and it's very clear that whilst a poor pitch will severely impair the prospect of raising funds, a great pitch will do nothing more than create potential that may well be knocked back during Due Diligence. The attending investors are no mugs!

With overtime, expenses, bonuses, sick day pay (or no pay) and Sunday rate (double pay) there are lots of possibilities as to why a person may not earn the same month on month wouldn't this be harder to keep track of and rectify should something go wrong. Looking back at this nearly 5 months down the line, whilst quite a bit has happened on the political front, one has to wonder whether the fundamental economic issues have changed. Bank lending? - still way-down, even if the cause isn't Greece. Cost of financing our debt burden? - still rising. Exports? - no significant shift. Bloated public sector? - well, there's some hope there.

Guy, my apologies, should have come back on this. First, I'm not an IFA, so everything I'll say is generic, not specific - I'm not proffering investment advice!

The real drift of my comments is that investment funds by their nature are risky, so the option of establishing ones own rather than buying into a fund manager's choice doesn't appeal to me. I'm certainly not saying the individual punter can play the market more successfully than the professional analyst.
